Thanks for self-esteem boost. I need a good mental kick in the pants. I've been feeling my passion has been running on empty lately. I guess it's tied to my love life, or lack of one. Women has that way of validating what we do. Impressing girls gives us that shot in the arm we need to do great things. That's really what specialization is all about (serving the needs of society is secondary). Like John Cougar said "You know you can't touch this stuff
Without money or a brand new car
Let me give you some good advice young man
You better learn to play guitar
All women around the world want a phony rock star
Who plays guitar"
http://songza.com/z/fox4ef

I never could learn how to play. As a teenager, I used to write song lyrics and was a successful rockstar in my imagination. I miss having that sort of naivety. I feel kind of foolish now when I trying writing songs the way I did. Podcasting is similar. When we first started I had the wonderful naive notion that we'd be internet superstars. I realize now I wouldn't really want that. I really enjoy forming these personal connections with the audience. I think just need to get laid at least once from a hot chick who is impressed by the podcast. No matter what it is we do in life, if we can say it gets us pussy, nobody will question the path we choose.

lol Thanks will do. But don't get discouraged, the new "jacks of all trades" are the people into social media and I feel this is because they are the only ones that exhibit the DIY yourself mentality (I feel this mentality pushes you to be the master of many skills because you can't rely on anyone else) and have to learn multiple skills as they are usually on the cutting edge of technology.

Sorry I "e-eavesdropped" on the comment you left the professor. But everyone is specialized because in my opinion the way we value/ structure knowledge just look at the news. They have all the experts. In jobs they pay/hire people for a specific skill set.

Part of this is because of the way knowledge is structured and part of it is because there is just so much out there to know. People that attempt to be a "jack of all trades" usually fail to really know anything substantial in any field.

I think that it is good to work and bring in an income, but I know of people who live downtown Vancouver, go to auditions regularly and make their money doing extra's work. Do you have your head shots? If not, look into getting them done and then apply with an extra's agency. Call them EVERY WEEK to see if there is ANYTHING available for you to have a part or extra role in. If you call them often, you will stay fresh in their minds. Good luck bro!

Hi Shimbob,

my main focus in film is Writing and Directing. But in my role as a Director I have the most fun because I ...A)get to work with actors, and ...B)work closely with the Cinematographer in making the visual effect i desire on camera to come alive.

My suggestion to you is to find some independent theater/dance/performance teachers that teach elements of a more subtle component of the acting aesthetic - kinetic energy work, sourcing character via subconscious emotional impulse detached from the internal mechanism of memory, and masking. Masks allow us to put on a face yet "emit" a different energy based on our intention once the mask is placed on the face. Please check out the theater school that I went to: http://www.fantasticspace.com/

Send David an e-mail and see if he knows any theater school facilitators that live in your province.

And Shimbob - what i had learned from David was more crucial than what I had learned at Vancouver Film School. You could have the most flashiest camera work and still produce crap! However, if your film has good actors that can convey their emotions not only on camera but "through" the lens, permeating into the audiences psyche, well then that to me is just fabulous art (and it beats all of the fancy cinematography ANY director can think up!).
Please see the film "The Unbearable Lightness of Being" starring Juliette Binoche and Daniel Day Lewis. Also check out the Lars Von Trier film "Dancer In The Dark" starring Catherine Deneuve and Bjork (of which Bjork won the Palm D'Ors Award at Cannes). Both films manage to hold the story all on it's own with pretty simplistic cinematography - and it is mainly due to the brilliant acting of its' cast.
Shimbob, I feel that you are a thinker AND a "feeler" in that you are very sensitive to the subtle nuances of people and their emotions. You probably find that you could empathize easily with anyone undergoing any human emotion. This is good for it will come in handy when you are either on the stage or in front of the camera.

Good luck with your endeavors and please feel free to stay at my place in Vancouver if you ever wanna come up to do some auditions out here for both film and theater, for there are VARIOUS productions going on at multiple times here in Vancouver. I'd suggest even coming up here and auditioning for next years Fringe festival!
Take care dude. And thanks for your continued support and interest in Foreskin Radio :)

Thank you so much for the compliments and encouragement Shimbob. It is very much appreciated :)
There was a weird occurence that followed the Anti-Grad party the following day; people Facebooked me apologizing for missing the event, and then asked me when the "real" Grad Reunion was going to be held. I nearly laughed my ass off just before wanting to tell them off via e-rage!! ...But, I bit my tongue and told them that there were no plans for grad (due to some bitches), and for that reason I had specifically made an "Anti" Grad party.
If you're ever in the Vancouver area Shmbob, please let me know. We'd love to have you on the show and hang out with you Foreskin Radio style. Until next time...AJA AJA FIGHTING!!!
